‘Appetite for Destruction’ was the best selling album of all times in the U.S. – 18 million units sold. The band was Guns N’Roses, their notorious lead-singer was/is (they never officially split-up) Axl Rose, the man who made the bandana ‘Rock n’Roll fashion’ in the 80ties by tying his long blond spaghetti hair back with it and putting a baseball cap backwards on top. And sunglasses (also backwards). Total bad-boy-look. Combined with a bipolar personality it’s the stuff that legends are made of. Bandanas are for rough guys. Rappers, gangsters, outlaws. Cowboys, soldiers, labouring men. No sweat running in your eyes, no dust in your mouth when you wear a bandanna. No one recognizes you when you rob a bank. It used to be a symbol for a certain kind of social class – until Axl came along. What it is up until today is a symbol for a certain kind of Rock n’ Roll-non-conformance and Cowboy-freedom. Freedom starts in your mind….just ‘Use your Illusion’ (Part I and II).
