Brigitta and I went to see the Georg Baselitz exhibition in Munich. Colossal paintings, mostly upside down, a few colossal sculptures, all placed in the colossal main hall of Haus der Kunst in Munich. Pretty impressive – if you like that sort of thing. While wandering around, taking in art and trying to take some artsy pictures we got into a discussion about art being ‘trendy’ or not.

Me (being all shallow and fashionista):

‘I love the current paintings – great colours, so trendy, very Miu Miu!’

Brigitta (as an artist being slightly shocked):

‘Art doesn’t follow trends! Art creates something new! And if anything – art inspires fashion and trends!’

So what came first, the hen or the egg?
What kind of artist would walk through life ignorant of fashion? Even if you are not interested in fashion, you can’t get around it. It’s everywhere – on people, in magazines, on TV, on the Internet. Unless you are Kaspar Hauser or cast away on a deserted island you can’t cut fashion out. It reflects society.
And visionary fashion is definitely not possible without art. One season there is a big Matisse exhibition in Paris, next season you see leafy prints on the runway!
So who did come up with the g(e)orgeous colours first – Georg or Miuccia? Art or fashion? I guess it doesn’t matter as long as there’s both.

P.S. Art and fashion – also nicely displayed on Brigitta’s blazer. Every once in a while she lets an artist paint on a simple black jacket and turns fashion into art….or art into fashion…whatever…

Brigitta wears a customized blazer by Barbara Schwarzer, pants by Zara, jumper by Land’s End, shoes by Vagabond, scarf by Cos, necklace by Buddha Rap.

Who is Brigitta? Looks so interesting! In all your posts of her.

Brigitta is an artist and she is indeed a very interesting woman 🙂

Ja, kann ich verstehen, Brigitta ist auch tatsächlich auch mein role model – eternal cool. Und ein ganz toller Mensch. Und eine tolle Künstlerin.
