There are things that you are serious and professional and passionate about and there are things that you just love and don’t get tired of doing, although you are far from being a professional. It’s called ‘a hobby’ and you have the freedom to explore, try out new things, play around and to fail.
Susanne studies photography and is very serious about it and she has a hobby: knitting. I don’t know what kind of pictures she takes, she has never shown me any, but I know that she is a great knitter. Every time I see her she talks about the new piece she works on, it’s always something special and it’s usually a piece of art when it’s finished. She never runs out of ideas when it comes to knitting, she invents new tools or improves old ones and once she starts a new ‘project’ she will finish it although it might take a long time – like the cardigan that she wearing.
She developed the Escher-like pattern herself, it took her many months til the knitting was done, another few weeks to sew up those millions of loose threads on the inside (I saw them, believe me), but the result is sensational. You don’t really need to wear anything else with a cardigan like that.
I am REALLY looking forward to the next piece….and I begin to wonder if this slowly turns into a profession….
