You may wonder why the majority of my ‘Style Icons’ have already…how can I put it uncontroversially….passed the centerline of life. They are within an age group that you wouldn’t usually consult if you needed fashion advice. How come I find those ‘Advanced Stylers’ so admirable? Maybe because they’ve done and seen a lot. You have to earn the title ‘Icon’. A few good outfits won’t do. There is a countless number of incredibly beautiful and extravagant young celebrities out there – you just have to open one of those glossy magazines. But how am I to know if they just have a good personal stylist?
To become a fashion muse takes more than fancy clothes and a good handbag. It takes experience, self-composure and maybe a bit of humour. Diane von Furstenberg has it all. She looks stunning, she was part of New York’s high society in the 70s, partied at Studio 54, was friends with Warhol and Dali and built up a fashion empire when women were still supposed to just look good. How can you not be smitten with her. Of course she wears her signature wrap-around dress, the one she became famous for and the leopard print looks gorgeous on her, but – lets face it – if she was wrapped in a potato sack, she’d still look radiant. That’s what I call a Style Icon.
(And of course there ARE a few ‘Style Icons’ that haven’t reached pension age yet…wait…let me think…)

(Thank you, Heiko, for your beautiful portrait!)
