Never say never. If somebody had told me a few years back that I would wear a calf length pleated polyester skirt with elastic waistband and a beige millefleur print I would have rolled on the floor with laughter. No way, pal! Those were the kind of skirts we did on special demand for our middleaged british customers (no offense, it’s true), back in the days when I worked as a designer for a high-end international fashion company. I could barely think of another piece of clothing so unflattering to the female figure. Total man repeller! So who would have thought that one day (and before retirement age!) I would enjoy wearing one of those myself? Certainly you have to be very careful about HOW to wear it. I decided to stick with the beige palette and focus on the waist. A bit hard to breathe with a belt like that but definitely worth the suffering. And, believe it or not, my husband got really excited when I put on my huge turqoise glasses: ‘Wow, you look like a sexy librarian!’ Well, I guess in the end we can all trust the Brits when it comes to fashion.
