I always wonder if there ever comes a time when I decide: ‘OK, now that’s the style I will stick to for the rest of my life’. What will that style be and how will I pick it? What kind of criteria does this style have to satisfy? When I was a kid I remember those middle aged ladies who were still wearing huge bouffant hair-dos, Priscilla Presley style, heavy eye make-up, fake lashes, pale lip stick although that fashion had long passed. But somehow they were stuck in the 60s. Or those well groomed elderly ladies (like my grandma), who went to the same hairdresser for 25 years (trim, shampoo and set), had one coat for every season, one hat to go along with it. When did they decide that this is the hair style they want to be buried with?
Do you pick a time from a period in your life that you felt extremely happy, successful, loved? And you think ‘Why change a winning team?’ and miss the point of no return? Or is there a time when it just becomes too exhausting to follow trends and keep up with the newest fashions? I am still wondering if there ever comes that time for me when I get fed up with inventing new looks for myself. I know my options get more limited the older I get. The stern 80s secretary look that looks so sophisticated and Vogue-ish on Jovana is definitely becoming a no-go if you are past 40, vintage is getting tricky when you start to wear it the second time around (you might get confused with one of those ladies mentioned above), everything ‘ironic’ is a total taboo. So what’s left? A big challenge and your dignity, that shouldn’t be left out of sight. And a well-earned ‘screw-it-I am-gonna-wear-it-anyway’ attitude.

Jovana wears a suit by H+M, a jumper by Uniqlo and vintage earrings.
